I met Mike McGee once, and he is by far one of my favorite spoken word ports of all time. I remember the first time I heard him was on Def Jam Poetry quite a few years back. I just remembered being stunned and in awe of his ability to make people laugh, to tell a story. Since then I’ve met a lot of awesome poets that have graced my ear drums with their own tales and subtle guidance in the world. But Mike McGee will always be one of my most favorite poets ever.
Mike McGee of you see this, I was the girl that came up to you after the whirlwind show at creighton university back in 2011. I remember I was really nervous to meet you, mainly because you were and are one of my poetic idols. My boyfriend literally had to pull/push me to go talk to you. And just gotta say, being able to get a picture with you and hear you that night helped to cross off an item on my bucket list.
Thank you for the awesomeness that is you Mike McGee! 🙂
I am thoroughly honored by this. I really am speechless. I remember writing that in your book. We drove from Denver, I believe. It was a weird night. Good show, tiny crowd. That was a week before one of my best friends died. Melissa Heagerty. You’d’ve liked her. Still in Omaha?
